In the course of renovating the hospital in Rohrbach, Austria, CEA-709 was implemented as the building control system. As a result, Rohrbach is one of the first hospitals in Austria with the full benefits of energy efficient, failure proof facility management.
Right from the start of renovating the hospital’s building automation system, there was a commitment to open systems. This, of course, also applies to additional building complexes planned for the future. Further objectives were high availability, flexibility, transparency, interoperability and efficient resource management of the new system. HGA Home and Building Automation, a partner of TAC with its headquarters in St. Florian, Austria, was determined to reach these goals. Due to an optimal network structure and a comprehensive plan covering all parts of the system, costs could be kept within budget throughout the entire project.
5000 Sources of Information in the Final Installation
Aprox. 5000 sources of information from different parts of the installation are visualized on a TAC Vista 2000 by accessing the LNS database. This includes data from lighting control, emergency lighting, HVAC, elevator control, sunblinds, energy meters, pumps, and fire alarms. The complete lighting control, energy management and fire prevention - including the alarm system - is integrated into the CEA-709 network.
After completing the renovation of the existing hospital buildings, the work on the new buildings and a further extension of the old complex will begin.
L-Switches for optimal Network Structuring
5-port L-Switches from LOYTEC (www.loytec.com) were used for structuring the network. The integration of these 5-port routers was seamless, rational and cost-effective thanks to its Plug’n Play capabilities. The L-Switches communicate with each other over a TP-1250 backbone and operate the FT-10 segments to which the field devices are connected. During the commissioning phase, the integrated diagnostic features of the L-Switch proved to be of great value. Problems could easily be found and eliminated using these functions. Further, with the LSD tool (LOYTEC system diagnostics), the complete installation can be monitored on-line. The possibility of observing everyday data from the CEA-709 network raises the confidence of both operators and system integrators in the system.
Integrated WEB and SMS Services
The main part of the web connection is the TAC Xenta 511. Using a dedicated tool, web pages can easily be created and executed on the TAC Xenta 511. Network variables can, for example, be displayed in graphical or tabular form. Different views of alarms and trends make the operation via the web interface user-friendly and easy. Even forwarding events via email or SMS is possible. Using SSL, the data is transmitted over the Internet in a secure way. Building automation via a standard browser has become a reality in the Rohrbach hospital.
System integration based on CEA-709 technology was the key to success for meeting all requirements of the hospital’s new control system. The operator can rely on the advantages of a futureproof open system.
