WHERE SCIENCE SHINES: CRAFTING A DYNAMIC GALLERY EXPERIENCE WITH LOYTEC DALI SOLUTION
Science Gallery in Cottbus.
The Science Gallery, located in the Information, Communication and Media Centre (IKMZ) of Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, offers a vibrant and engaging showcase of technological innovations developed by its scientists.
The project required an advanced automation solution to support its research-oriented environment while maintaining optimal conditions for its exhibits. The end customer, a research institution, aimed to create a sophisticated, technology-driven spacethat symbolized scientific exploration. Our trusted partner, Energieberatung Siegmar Poppei, collaborated closely with LOYTEC to implement a lighting solution that met these high standards.

L-DALI Lighting Solution

The Solution.
LOYTEC provided an intelligent lighting automation solution using a DALI controller. The exhibit vitrines were equipped with various lighting elements, including LED ambient lighting, background lighting beneath an acrylic plate, and ceiling-side illumination, all featuring dynamic color adjustments. The lighting system is automatically switched on by additional motion sensors when visitors are approaching.
A central touch panel at the entrance counter allows operators to control the lighting for three thematic exhibition areas. Although the touch panel itself was not sourced from LOYTEC, our automation system integrated seamlessly with it, ensuring a user-friendly experience for exhibition managers.
LOYTEC’s DALI-based automation system was implemented using the LDALI-ME201-U controller, enabling precise lighting management while integrating with the building’s overall infrastructure.
Construction of the Science Gallery began in 2019, with LOYTEC becoming actively involved in 2021. The project was led by André Röhrig, ensuring a smooth transition from planning to execution. Renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron designed the building, integrating advanced automation technology into its aesthetic and functional framework. The gallery officially opened its doors in 2022, providing a cutting-edge space for scientific exhibits and events.
Benefits.
The intelligent lighting system significantly enhances the visitor experience by creating an immersive environment that adapts to natural light and visitor movement. This precise control ensures optimal preservation of sensitive exhibits, safeguarding their quality and integrity.
The seamless integration of the automation system with the existing infrastructure allows for easy operation by exhibition staff, improving overall efficiency. Additionally, the automated lighting control optimizes energy use based on real-time environmental factors and visitor presence, contributing to energy efficiency.
Conclusion.
The Science Gallery has successfully established itself as a crucial tool for technology transfer to society. The intelligent lighting system enhances the visitor experience and ensures optimal conditions for the preservation and presentation of sensitive exhibits. The implementation has received positive feedback from stakeholders and visitors alike. The gallery hosts annual light show events, such as the “Night of Creative Minds”, further solidifying its role as a center for innovation and public engagement.
High-profile visitors, including government officials, business leaders, and renowned scientists, underline its significance in the scientific and academic community.
Given the success of the project, the implemented solution has been recommended for adoption by the Leibniz Institute for Science. LOYTEC continues to explore further advancements in building automation to enhance the functionality and efficiency of research-driven spaces in the future.
